Historical and Ghost Tours

 

Tours start right on time, we go by the bell heard from Union Station Visitors Center.

1. Lincoln's Ghost Walk: Legends & Lore - This 90 minute 12 block walking tour uses the Lincoln sites as the backdrop for the ghostly & strange stories about Lincoln's life and his death. History, mystery, visions, dreams, séances, sanity & ghosts! Hear stories of Lincoln's spiritual beliefs, his prophetic visions, his ghost at the White House, Mary's insanity trial, the funeral train, and the legends of his tomb. This tour is heavy on factual history, but plenty of lore as well. Suitable for kids of all ages. (Not scary)  RESERVATIONS NOT NEEDED.

2010 Tour Runs - March 2 through October 31 Tuesday to Saturday - including Halloween night, 7:30pm

$12 adults, $8 kids ages 11-17, free kids under 10 up to 2 kids, then $5 per child, $10 seniors and military

 

2. Scandalous Springfield Walk: This adult only 90 minute walking tour chronicles Springfield's true crime history. There's stories of keystone cops & brothel raids, prohibition & speakeasies, lynchings & riots, the mob, murder, & swimming with the fishes in the Sangamon River, and Springfield's connection to the St. Valentine's Day Massacre. Take the tour or else!! Must be 16 or older for this tour. RESERVATIONS NOT NEEDED.

Tour Runs: June 5 through October 30, Saturday nights 7pm - $10 per Adult

 

 3. Springfield's Haunted Dead Tour - This old prairie town does have a haunted past, its just that no one ever dare talk about it until now! This  2.5 hour walking tour tells tales of Springfield’s darker side and its haunted history. Based on availability we enter sites believed to be actually haunted and you'll do the investigating!  RESERVATIONS ARE REQURED.

This year's tour sites have not yet been secured. Details for the 2010 tour will be posted soon as possible.

 Tour dates: May 1, June 5, July 10, August 7, September 4 at 8pm

October every Fri & Sat at 7:00pm including the 31st Halloween night (Sunday night)

Not suitable for kids under 12 years of age. Prices posted soon. We try to keep the cost at $15-20 per person.

 

If you are experiencing difficulty with the paranormal and would like a professional and discrete investigation please contact us and we'll set you up with the Springfield Ghost Society. They'll investigate anywhere within an hour of Springfield.

4. Springfield's 1908 Race Riot Walk- In August, 1908 Springfield was besieged by a 3 day race riot. Homes and businesses we destroyed, tthousands were displaced. Hundreds were wounded and men lynched in the streets. This event served as the catalyst for the formation of the NAACP in 1909.                                                                    

This tour is available by reservation only to groups of 15 or more.

Group rates: $10 for 15-49, $8 50-99, $7 groups of 100+

This tour contains mature subject matter and my not be suitable for younger children.; stories of violence and strong language used in historical content.

5. Springfield Triology Talk- This 45-minute 1 block walk uses the Old State Capitol and surrounding historical plaza to tell tales of Springfield's historical triology. Topics  include overview of early pioneer history, Abraham Lincoln, Obama history and other presidential visits and closes with lighthearted Route 66 history.

This tour is available by reservation only to groups of 15 or more.

The group rate is $3 per person

Tickets for all tours can be purchased at Springfield Walks HQ 113 N. 6th St

(Located across the street from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library)

Tickets can be purchased anytime right up to tour times.

 NO RESERVATIONS ARE NECESSARY except the Haunted Dead Tour or Group Tours as noted above

We reccomend buying your tickets prior to tour time as it prevents long ticket lines at tour time

Please arrive several minutes prior to tour time, tours start on time

Weather decisions can be made right up to tour time, be prepared and dress for the weather.

NO REFUNDS UNLESS TICKET CAN BE RESOLD OR TOUR IS CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER.
