Transportation Options
There’s a few other ways to get around Springfield other than walking. All of the Lincoln sites except the tomb and New Salem are downtown within easy walking distance. The tomb is accessible via "historical bus." New Salem is a 30 minute drive. If you don't have a car you might choose to rent a car, or hire Garret as a personal guide to drive and escort you to New Salem. Only room for 5-6 in my mini van though. For the most economical transportation to the sites and downtown hotels take the SMTD “Black Historical Bus.” However, sometime the black bus is white, just look for the lighted sign in the front window, “Historical Sites.” 217.522.5531 You can hop on or off as many times as you want all day for only $3!! You can also do point to point fares as well. Be sure to be prepared with exact change as the drivers do not make change. Buses are clean, comforatble, air conditioned and ADA accessible. For the sophisticated way to see Springfield call Harmony Limousine. http://www.harmonylimos.com/index.html. They have a nice variety of limo and coach sizes to accommodate your group. 217.585.2887 There is also a trolley service that runs in warmer months and can be picked up at any of the Lincoln sites when running.
